If you read yesterdays post and took a look at John 4, you realize that it wasn’t just the woman whose life was drastically altered the day she met Jesus at the well. As we get further into the story we see that she heads back to town to tell everyone what happened. I love her message, “Come and see a man that told me everything I ever did.”(…and loves me anyway) All of the people in the town know this woman’s story. After all, it was why she was going to the well by herself in the middle of the day. So when she showed up to town to tell them about a man who loved and accepted her just as she was, their interest peaked.
“Many of the Samaritans from that that town believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony.” Did you catch that, many of the towns people believed because of the woman’s belief? There is a chain reaction going in here and the results are astounding! Belief causes belief which results in more belief. The best part of the story is the transformation that takes place at the end of this encounter. Jesus shows back up on the scene and interacts directly with the people. The story ends with, “We know longer believe because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.” (V.42) May that be our story as well.
