Ever felt left out? Whether it was back on the playground in grade school, not getting the nod for varsity on a sports team, or getting the proverbial “let’s just be friends”, most of us have felt left out. Our version of being left out is nothing compared to how the Holy Spirit is overlooked and given second position to the Father and the Son. Mostly, the Spirit is presented as an add on, an afterthought, something to consider one day when we reach a certain spiritual maturity.
Here’s the reality: “But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you…” (1 Jn 2:27) The Holy Spirit lives in us, let’s let that sink in for a moment.
Most of the teaching or praying that is out there is about asking for something. Our natural inclination is to want to gain access to some blessing or put ourselves in a position to receive the Spirit of God. But John dismisses that whole idea! He tells us that we have already received! It is past tense, sealed, secured.
The question is: Do I live my day in this reality? Most days, when I am mindful of it, I am trying to gain access to the Spirit of God. I don’t operate from the truth the the Spirit is already in me. That is a game changer. Oh that we could live from that frame of reference…
