Something always seemed to happen when people ended up at the feet of Jesus. Mark 5 depicts 4 people who hit their knees out of desperation, and each one of them has a life changing experience. The demon-possessed man, “Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him.” (v 6) Jarius, “One of the synagogue officials named Jarius came up and on seeing Jesus fell at His feet, saying ‘My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay your hands on her.’” (22) Hemorrhaging woman, “after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched his cloak.” (28) Jarius’ daughter, “Taking the child by the hand He said to her, ’Little girl I say to you get up’” (41)
I believe this is still happening today. When we get to a place of desperation and hit our knees before Jesus, he hears our cry. Each of the people in this story couldn’t do it alone. They came to a situation in their life that was unmanageable. So instead of giving in, they did they only thing left to do, bow down and cry out to Jesus. We can learn a lot from these folks. Each of them had an appropriate response to tragedy and desperation. When there was nowhere else to turn they turned to Jesus. The result was that their lives were changed forever.
