My daughter Moriah is all in on Dora the Explorer. Lately she has been talking about Swipper the fox. On each episode the “sneaky fox” shows up and Dora encourages the home audience to say,”Swiper no swipping” over and over until the fox goes away. Well, either Jesus was a fan of Dora or she picked up the language from him, but somehow they are on the same page. Jesus is not scared, period! Some Pharisees said to him, “Get away from here if you want to live! Herod wants to kill you!” Jesus’ response:”You tell that fox that I will keep on casting out demons and healing people today and tomorrow; and the third day I will accomplish my purpose” (Luke 13:31&32) In spite of the threats, of knowing what was going to happen, Jesus said “Swiper no swipping” and continued to pursue his chosen people. Here he is in Jerusalem, the hub of his people and they want to kill kill. His response is love.
That is the way Jesus is toward us too. We continue to deny him, fail him, ignore him, abandon him, and yet He comes….He is the God who comes. On this Holy Thursday, may we reflect on God’s goodness through his Son Jesus, who knew his destiny, stared it in the face and said, “Tell that fox I’m comin’….”
Prayer: Lord, don’t let me just celebrate Easter this year. May I be in these next few days of betrayal, denial, and brutality with you. Lead me to the Resurrection once again. Amen
