Receiving instead of initiating

I want so badly to initiate!  Deep down in me there is a desire to be responsible for my own spiritual wellness.  I want to report to God how well I am doing and get the proverbial pat on the back, side hug or if I am doing really well, a full embrace.   I know this is not the way to go about life but it’s hard to break old habits of performance.  Then I run across a passage like the one in my devotional on Galatians this morning.  I let the scripture speak for itself:

Answer this question: Does the God who lavishly provides you with his own presence, his Holy Spirit, working things in your lives you could never do for yourselves, does he do these things because of your strenuous moral striving or because you trust him to do them in you? Don’t these things happen among you just as they happened with Abraham? He believed God, and that act of belief was turned into a life that was right with God. (Gal 3:5-6)  So those now who live by faith are blessed along with Abraham, who lived by faith—this is no new doctrine! And that means that anyone who tries to live by his own effort, independent of God, is doomed to failure. (v. 9) The person who lives in right relationship with God does it by embracing what God arranges for him. Doing things for God is the opposite of entering into what God does for you. Habakkuk had it right: “The person who believes God, is set right by God—and that’s the real life.” The person who lives in right relationship with God does it by embracing what God arranges for him. Doing things for God is the opposite of entering into what God does for you. Habakkuk had it right: “The person who believes God, is set right by God—and that’s the real life.” (v.11)  The Message

There are no thoughts I can add to these words from scripture.  May I, may we believe the words of Habakkuk today.  Oh that I would leave to live into the overwhelming love and initiation of the God who comes…
