No time to rest

We live in a culture that runs from rest.  Even the things we do to take a break are not restful.  TV, random web stuff, hanging with friends, none are restful.  Just as most people try every other means of salvation before they accept God’s rescue, so do we try every other means of rest.

Coming off the weekend is a good barometer.  How did you enjoy rest this weekend?  If your first response is, “I didn’t have time to rest”, then you probably haven’t realized the importance of rest.

The word of God is full of talk about rest.  Probably the most famous word is, “Come to me all you who are weary and heavy burdened and I will give you rest.”  If you want to read a whole section on rest try Heb 3:12-4:16.  I love 4:6 “So God’s rest is there for people to enter into…”  It’s available! It’s waiting there for any who dare to stop, quit it, be still.

So if you are tired, worn out, at your breaking point, try resting in God.  It’s the only true place of rest.
