Did you know that Sunday’s don’t count as part of the 40 days of Lent? So today is actually Day 5…
In November the Lord convicted me about having a family Sabbath day. We waited until the first week of January to get started, so now we are a few months into it. Observing the Sabbath as a family has been much easier than I thought it would be. Here is our simple practice:
We switched to the evening service at church in order to ease into the day. Around 7:30 AM Moriah (5) and I get up. She goes downstairs to watch a morning show and I get time alone with Father get get my mind right for the day. At 8:30 Elijah (3) gets up and Mom gets to sleep in. Often I will take the kids and she will get her own time in the Word before we have family breakfast. At 9:30 ish we all prepare breakfast together and sit down to eat together. After breakfast we do morning “Story” http://www.gcmcollective.com/article/story-of-god-for-kids/. We sing a few songs and then celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. Mom prays to end our time and then we go do something fun together. At 1:00 PM the kids go down for nap and often we get a little rest as well. We attend the 4:00 service and stay for the family meal afterwards. We come home and put the kids down at 7:30 PM and Anna and I have an in house “date night” to begin our week together.
This practice sets in motion a great rhythm for our week. I encourage you to find a rhythm that fits for you (your family). The Lord will honor it!
