“R” word number two. Are you picking up on a pattern here for Holy Week? The second R word that allows us to be in a state of rest is REDEEM. To REDEEM is to remove the obligation of payment, or to release from blame or debt.
The greatest work of REDEMPTION that Jesus did for us was removing our obligation to die for sin. Imagine if we hadn’t been REDEEMED, now that would be more than enough reason to be in a state of unrest. If our obligation of payment for our sin had not been removed then our punishment of eternal death would be inevitable. Gal 4:4-5 tells us, “But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To REDEEM them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons (and daughters).” Not only was our debt of payment settled by Jesus, but we were invited in as sons and daughters of God. As children of God we can rest in his arms knowing that our debt has been settled once and for all.
You and I have been REDEEMED!!! That is not only something to celebrate today, but a truth that we can rest in each day of our lives.
