Lent Day 35

Something occurred to me yesterday as I was reading one of the Palm Sunday verses from my Lenten devotional. There are a number on “R” words that have a great impact on our ability to rest. Let me explain…

The first word, RESCUE is used a number of times in the Bible. The instance that has a direct correlation with rest is 1 Cor 1:13-14. “For He RESCUED us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Think about it, God is doing all of the work here. He has RESCUED each of us from the pits of hell. That is where we were headed until Jesus showed up on the scene. Not only did He RESCUE us, but He took it a step further and transferred us in His kingdom. What did we do in this transaction? Nothing, not one thing. Oh we want to say that we played a part. That we were somehow responsible for making the commitment or saying the prayer to receive Christ, but the reality is that all of the work is His. Because of this great RESCUE you and I can rest. We can rest in the reality that we have been chosen and RESCUED by the Creator. We need not worry or wonder or fret about our status of salvation. We have been RESCUED.

It’s Holy Monday, rest in God’s RESCUE. We have much to be thankful for this week.
