Lent Day 27

Fear is a big cause of sleeplessness. Fear or what others are thinking, fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of what’s to come. Each of these fears leads to anxiety and anxiety leads to lack of sleep.

The Proverbs teach, “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet” (3:23). This kind of sleep comes when we trust in the Lord and don’t fear. As hard as it may seem to believe, lack of fear is a choice. It is a choice to believe the Lord is in control of all things and He can be trusted. This type of faith leads gives us calmness about our day, which leads to good sleep. We are in one of the most uncertain times of recent history. Many of us are worried about the future and are trying desperately to retain some stability in our lives. The only real stability comes when we release control of all things and trust that the Lord has us. If we will do this, we will reap the benefits of sound sleep at the end of the day.

So, when the temptation comes to worry and fear, lean into the Lord. Know that He is the great sustainer of all things and we will not be left to do life on our own.
