Is there a good kind of fear?

“Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline” (Prov 1:7)

Reverence for, putting above all else, fearing God over men, being passionately indifferent about all things except Jesus.  That is fear, good fear, and the result is true knowledge.  I am finishing up my second year of doing the One-Year Bible, journaling most days about one verse, and what I realize is that through that the Lord has been revealing true knowledge.  Maybe a loose interpretation of Prov 1:7 would be “Fools despise wisdom”=don’t read the Bible consistently ; “discipline”=sucking it up and doing whatever it takes to follow Jesus, to know God, to be in communion with Him.

As we consider heading into to a new year, may we fear God and seek true wisdom…
