The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us! (Rms 8:11) How is that possible? Maybe that’s not the question. A better question could be, “Will we ever live into the truth that the Spirit of God lives in us?” If we take a minute to ponder this idea we realize it has huge implications for our day-to-day life. If we really believed this then no longer could we give into the feelings of loneliness. Anxiety and worry would fall to the wayside. Feelings of depression and sadness would be overtaken by a sense of wonder and awe, that the very Spirit that had the power and ability to raise Jesus from the dead lives in us!
The lie here isn’t subtle. All day, throughout the day, there are voices telling us that we are on our own, that it is up to us. Our culture tells us that dependency on God is a sign of weakness. Our workplace encourages us to figure out things on our own and not ask for help. At home things can often get overwhelming that we check out instead of believing that we have what it takes to handle most situations. But the truth still remains, “But since the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” Not only are we promised that the Spirit of God is in us, but we are told that we are given life, real life, through the Holy Trinity.
As we enter into Good Friday, may we believe that the very Spirit that was at work in the resurrection of Jesus is available to us. “For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you.” (Col 1:27)
