One of the greatest benefits of getting time with Jesus everyday is REST. Something mysterious happens in the soul when we take time to be with God and God alone. Jesus promise comes true, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt: 11:28)
Rest is so much more refreshing than sleep. Don’t get me wrong, I love our king size bed and down pillows, but the real refreshment comes just after I get out of bed. I walk downstairs, sit in my chair, put a blanket over my legs and open the scriptures.
God’s says that those who go astray, “…they shall not enter into My rest.” (Ps 95:11) That warning is for today and eternity. Our promise for the future is to eternally live in our Father’s rest. If we chose to carve out time today to be with our Lord, we get a taste of this ultimate rest that will be ours forever.
“Our hearts are restless until they find rest in you” St. Augustine
