Disbelief = lack of miracles, really?

Did I read that right?  Mark 6:5-6 “And He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He wondered at their unbelief. ”  That’s a sobering little piece of text.  If Jesus himself was prevented from doing miracles in his hometown because of unbelief, what miracles am I missing out on because of my lack of faith?  Oh I know, I want to dismiss this idea as much as anyone.  Surely this can’t be true.  Surely my belief or lack of belief can’t have an impact on Jesus’ work in my own life or in the life of others.

I remember when I began this journey of belief a number of years ago.  I had been a Christian for years, but had been primarily operating out of fear and lack of belief.  I loved Jesus, wanted to become more like him, but was caught up focusing on what God was not doing instead of seeing all that he was up to. Reading through the Gospels with an eye for belief and faith changed my focus.  This verse on the power of unbelief stopped me in my tracks!  I had to decide whether or not I buy in to all of Jesus’ teachings, and if so, then what was I going to do but begin to believe even when I didn’t want to.  I have been doing that for some time now and it has been quite a journey…
