Talk about an invitation? “Come and See” (John 1:39) Curiosity is too much for most of us to handle. We are intrigued my adventure and like the unknown. Just think back to last week, last year, 20 years ago, whenever you last were smitten by someone of the opposite sex. Curiosity, adventure and attraction were at the center of the beginnings of your relationship. There is something deep in us that likes all of these things and Jesus obviously knew that. So he used these three things in his favor to invite his first followers into the journey with him. “Come and See. So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him.” (v 39)
I love the “hangoutedness” of Jesus. The guy just loves to be with people. He has a serious message to get out, he doesn’t have much time, yet he is in no hurry. He spent the whole day with these two new friends. They exchanged stories, ate some food and became acquainted with one another. My guess is that the conversation revolved a lot more around family and work then it did “spiritual matters.” Jesus was inviting these two men, and others, into a lifestyle of faith and belief. It begins with, “Come and See.” Are we willing to show up and see what Jesus has for us today?
