Can’t I get the credit?

God is very particular that he gets the glory. He wants it because he wants us to understand who we can put our trust in. He also knows how easy it is for his people to get into self worship, and he wants to protect us. The other alternative is be from that.  From believing that we are god, that we are in control, and eventually believing that life is possible on our own. God’s invitation is for us to trust him with our provisions and the give him the glory when it comes.

“Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land that I am giving to them.” (Num 20:16)

God was very clear with Moses and Aaron, “speak to the rock and it will pour out water.” (v8). Instead Moses raised his hand, struck the rock and out came the water. He wanted to make the miracle about him, instead of about God’s provision. “Look at what I did, I rescued you, I provided water.”  We do this all too often.  I wonder how God is reprimanding us for going our own way…
