Being ready

It’s amazing how different the day goes when we get up, have time with Jesus, exercise, get dressed and head into the day.  Even the weekend, which seems like the perfect opportunity to bail on regular morning ritual, goes much better when we begin the day with order.

Jesus uses daily routine to get his friends attention in Luke 12.  “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. (Luke 12:35-37)  Are we watching?  Am I watching today for Jesus?  Am I believing that He is alive and well, active, and moving about?  Do I ready myself each morning with believing that the Spirit of God is in me, and that I get to participate with the Creator in His work today?

Jesus has harsh words for those of us who do not take seriously his advice to be ready.  He says that he will “assign him a place with the unbelievers.” (46)  I guess that makes sense.  To go about today without expectancy and watchfulness is to not truly buy into Jesus’ teaching.   If we claim to believe then we must get ready today.
