Here we go, Lent 2010. For the next 40 days (46 including Sundays) we are going to be looking together at the truth of what God says about us. We can’t really jump into the theme, Believing What God Says About Us, without starting with Jesus’ temptation. After all, we are in good company. The Evil One tries to keep us from believing the truth about what God says about us, just as he did Jesus in the wilderness. “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to turn into bread.” (Matt 4:3) The temptation was not about making bread out of rocks, but instead it was an attempt to push Jesus believe the lie: “If you are the Son of God…” Satan speaks directly against that truth and tries to put doubt in Jesus’ mind.
Sound familiar? If you are at all like me, you have a hard time believing that you are a son or daughter of God. It’s the truth though. Jesus is the son of God, and so are you, a believer in Jesus Christ, a child of God. Believing that God is who He says He is makes us His sons and daughters! Jesus chose to believe the truth that day, how about you?
Lie: We are not really sons and daughters of God the Father
Truth: “Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” Gal 3:25-26
